Recovery After Treatment for Rosacea

What is Rosacea (Skin Flushing)
Rosacea - which is caused by excessive exposure to sun - affects mostly fair-skinned people in their 30s and 40s. Often confused with adult acne, skin flushing caused by Rosacea is common, with as many 14 millions Americans experiencing some degree of it.
Roscaea encompasses numerous symptoms which usually begin with mild redness on the nose, cheeks, chin and forehead. Eventually the initial symptoms worsen, unsightly capillary and / or spider veins appear and become more and more pronounced. Many factors may exacerbate symptoms: coffee, alcohol, exercise, etc. (Some Rosacea sufferers may develop pimples as well.)
The symptoms of Rosacea get worse quickly. Few Rosacea patients know that the dilated veins that cause the flushed appearance form over several years before they become visible and bothersome.

Treatment of Rosacea (Skin Flushing)
Like many other skin conditions Rosacea requires treatment and will become worse without it. The inflammation Rosacea causes can be managed with antibiotics. Dr. Bahari successfully uses Obagi® Rosaclear product in treatment of Rosacea.

The offending spider veins can be erased with cosmetic laser or alternate treatments. Those who avoid sun exposure and use sunscreen regularly may be able to keep new spider veins from forming for a long period of time and some even permanently.
Laser treatment can not only eliminate the appearance of capillary and spider veins, it can remove the thickened skin on the cheeks and nose common in Rosacea. Some studies suggest that laser treatment can also lessen the incidence of pimples.

Dr. Bahari uses Fractional CO2 laser and IPL Photofacial in the treatment of Rosacea.

Usually, a couple of treatments with Fractional CO2 laser (which can remove also the typical to Rosacea thickened skin) is sufficient to significantly improve (and in many cases, restore) the patient's appearance. In milder cases, Dr. Bahari may elect to use IPL Photofacial. (Several treatments may be needed to achieve optimal results.)

Both treatments are safe, FDA-approved and only mildly uncomfortable.

Recovery After Treatment for Rosacea
Depending on the type of treatment Dr. Bahari performed, the length of your recovery will be different.

It takes 5-7 days before you can resume your normal routine after Fractional CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing. The healing process will be complete within a month, with further improvements taking place for over several months. (In rare cases, a patient may experience temporary bruising after Fractional CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing which could linger for 3 to 7 days.)
If you've been treated with IPL Photofacial, there is no downtime involved.
