XEOMIN®

What is XEOMIN®

XEOMIN® is a prescription medication which contains botulinum toxin type A, a protein purified from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. XEOMIN® is also sometimes referred to as incobotulinumtoxinA. It has been used therapeutically for many years; nevertheless, few people are still concerned with the use of a neurotoxin for cosmetic purposes. It must be noted that MANY of our medications are toxins- or poisons-based and used for medicinal purposes successfully since ancient times. (These preparations are obviously diluted to safe levels. The same is true of XEOMIN®). In addition, since 2011 the FDA has approved XEOMIN® Cosmetic after determining its safety and efficacy.

XEOMIN® in Aesthetics: How Does it Work?

When you squint or frown, the muscles between your brows contract, causing the skin to furrow and fold. These lines that occur due to facial mimics are referred to as dynamic lines. Over time, as your skin ages and loses some of its elasticity, these repeated contractions can cause persistent frown lines.

Botulinum toxin type A – the active ingredient in XEOMIN® – is used in facial aesthetic treatment to treat dynamic lines like glabellar frown lines. It acts on nerve endings in muscles to prevent muscle fibers from contracting. By reducing these contractions, XEOMIN® can temporarily reduce the frown lines on your forehead between your eyes.

How does Dr. Bahari Use XEOMIN®

XEOMIN® is used safely and effectively for many years to smooth out wrinkles. It is commonly used for glabellar frown lines between the eyes, wrinkles on the forehead, and crow’s feet on the sides of the eyes. Besides smoothing out worry and frown lines, XEOMIN® injections can create a lifting effect by relaxing the muscles that pull down on the eyebrows. In addition to elevating the ends of the eyebrows into a more pleasing arch; correcting a downward slanting sad eyes appearance; it also opens the eyes, reducing the hooded appearance so common in middle aged eyes. This procedure is appropriate for mild brow drooping and eliminates the need for eyebrow lift surgery.

XEOMIN® may also be used to treat neck cords very effectively. Many of Dr. Bahari’s patients use a combination of skin tightening laser treatments and XEOMIN® to treat lax skin with cords on their neck, eliminating the need for neck lift surgery.

XEOMIN® may also be used to treat sweaty palms, underarms, and feet. The results are fantastic. After only a single procedure, the sweating disappears. The results last for many months.

What are the Benefits of XEOMIN®?

Youthful appearance, of course! XEOMIN® temporarily relaxes the muscles that cause wrinkles which means that after receiving XEOMIN® treatment the patients experiences freedom of wrinkles in the treated area(s) for as long as the injection(s) is effective (3-6 months, with an average of 4 months. The actual duration varies from one individual to another, depending on how fast an individual breaks down XEOMIN®). The treatment can be repeated as often as needed.

What is XEOMIN® Injection Experience Like for the Patient?

XEOMIN® is administered as an injection. Depending on the specific area treated the patient may experience some discomfort. If the area treated in your case is particularly sensitive to pain, Dr. Bahari may use a topical numbing agent to make the experience more comfortable for you. XEOMIN® usually becomes effective within 3 to 10 days.
